* Birthday Shoes *

So it is my birthday today. A whole twenty two... Wow. I have been spoilt rotten today and I have only seen half of the family ;) Yesterday was Easter, so I decided to have a lunch that celebrated Easter and my birthday at the same time. I had a delectable meal, and could barely walk afterwards, I was so full.

Speaking of walking, I got shoes, amongst other beautiful gifts for my birthday. Detailed pumps are all the rage at the moment. They are comfortable, practical and fun to wear. I am so grateful to have them, as it will make that walk to Fedisa every morning so much more comfortable.

Here are some pictures of the shoes :)

Busy week!

Storyboards were finally handed in on Monday after our two week holiday. There was, however, no rest for the wicked, and we were given what felt like 100 new briefs. We had two storyboards due for Friday, and for the first time in my studies, I finished 20 minutes before the time.

The brief was to design transformative clothing. Therefore, we had to take a piece of clothing, and turn it into something else.
The other one was interactive clothing. This is clothing that has a purpose.

My idea was clothing made for our bad economic climate. It was summer clothes that turned into winter clothes and vise versa.
The interactive design had the same approach, but the clothing turned into storage units. The hood was remove, and it became a rucksack.

It was really interesting to think outside the box, and many of my peers had very fun designs. I am surprised that we all had some creativity in us after the 9 storyboards.

Some of our other briefs include accessory and shoe design, as well as life drawings of hands and feet. We have to do this in chalk.... I have such a mental block about chalk. It gives me goosebumps. But... time to get over that I guess :)

I am having major issues with uploading photos at the moment, but will add loads more next time.

Storyboard frenzy...

It is my final day of holidays... Not that I have really had one because I have been focusing on finishing my storyboards that are due tomorrow. Most painful part... Mounting! Really not my favourite pastime, but it had to be done.

I decided to hand render, as I am usually very into the whole CAD process and felt like doing something different.

The background paper that I used was recycled wallpaper, which added a nice 3D effect. I am happy with my boards - especially due to the fact that I had the flu as well.

So tomorrow, it is off to Fedisa, to start the new term.

Below are two of the boards, just as a sneak preview:

Oh, for the love of FABRIC!

"Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening."
- Coco Chanel -

This is the idea that gave me such a burst of inspiration as I FINALLY took the plunge and bought my final range fabric. It really was not as stressful as I thought, and ended up being extremely successful... And a lot cheaper than I thought it would be. It really helps to be a student (he he). I was WAY under budget when I finally left all of the fabric stores five hours later. It felt great, because I got fabrics, that in my opinion are just beautiful.

I made a promise to myself that I would stay away from anything shiny. Not my thing this year, as I have done enough of that in the past. So, I decided to go the opposite route, and upholstery fabric was that choice.

I got the most beautiful floral tapestry that I can not stop staring at. I might be a little bit crazy, but it just makes me smile. I also found a very rough fabric, and had no idea what it was, only to find out that it is bamboo. Thanks to that fabric, I am now going the natural route as well. Yay for Eco-friendly ;)

I got the softest Melton, for an incredible price, as well as snow look linen. I went crazy with the chiffon, buying multiple shades of grey. Ten metres of grey tulle got stuffed in a bag and off I went. I chose to buy cotton for my lining, as I think it looks nicer, and it is quite awesome to work with.

Overall, what an amazing and inspirational outing. I am so grateful to Fedisa for letting us have free reign with our creativity, as I can not wait to get started.

Below are some photographs of my fabric and my lining:
